The scheme covers up to 75% of the total cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints, including VAT, with a maximum cap of:

  • £350 per socket
  • 40 sockets across all sites per applicant (e.g. 1 socket per site if installing at 40 different sites)

Eligibility

The scheme is available to eligible:

  • Businesses
  • Charities
  • Public sector organisations
  • Small accommodation businesses

A different grant is available for state-funded education institutions. All chargepoints must be installed by an OZEV-authorised installer, such as Evlution.

Site Requirements

  • You must own the property or have landlord consent for installing chargepoints at the sites listed in your application.
  • The site must have dedicated off-road parking associated with the premises. If you don’t own the parking, you’ll need the landowner’s permission.
  • It’s recommended to have the site surveyed by an installer, such as Evlution, before applying for the grant.

Parking Requirements

  • The parking must be designated for staff or fleet use, not for customers.
  • The parking should be either on-site or within a reasonable distance from the workplace.
  • The parking spaces should be suitable for chargepoint installation and designated to you, although the rest of the car park may be shared with other organisations.
  • Businesses can allow local residents to use chargepoints outside of office hours.

Public authorities, charities, and small accommodation businesses are not restricted on who can use the parking. If chargepoints are available to the public, you must comply with the Public Chargepoint Regulations 2023. More information on the Chargepoint regulation can be found on our website https://www.evlution.co.uk

Financial Assistance

You can receive up to £315,000 in Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA) over three financial years. This includes state grants, subsidies, and other government-funded financial incentives. The paperwork for such payments will indicate they are MFA.

When claiming this grant, ensure you do not exceed £315,000 in MFA over the last three financial years. Public authorities are exempt from making an MFA declaration during the application process.

Required Evidence

You must provide one of the following:

  • Companies House reference number
  • VAT registration number
  • Business rate (non-domestic) bill

Charities, NHS surgeries, and schools may submit alternative documentation if they do not have the above. The person applying must use an NHS email domain, and the installation address must match the address registered with the NHS.
If you’re unsure about your organisation’s eligibility, contact the DVLA at workplacechargingscheme@dvla.gov.uk.

EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets

The WCS Grant can be combined with the EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets. However, both grants cannot be used for the same chargepoints.

To use both grants for the same site:

  1. Claim for at least one chargepoint under the EV Infrastructure Grant first.
  2. Use the Workplace Charging Scheme for additional chargepoints later.

Ineligible Sites

The following sites are not eligible for the scheme:

  • Locations outside England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland (including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man)
  • Parking facilities not designated to you
  • Parking solely for customer use
  • Parking facilities not yet built
  • Parking part of a domestic property (unless it’s your primary workplace)
  • Sites that have already claimed under this scheme or its predecessors (EVHS or DRS)

Important Dates

Funding is available until 31 March 2025.

How to Apply

To apply, complete the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) application form.

  • If successful, you’ll receive a voucher code within 5 working days, which you can give to any authorised installer, such as Evlution. The voucher is valid for 180 days. The installer should deduct the grant funded amount from your quotation and will claim the grant after installation.

Additional Information

For assistance, you can:

If your circumstances change after applying, contact your authorised installer to see if you’re still eligible. You may need to reapply if your circumstances invalidate your application.

If installation cannot be completed within 180 days, you will need to withdraw your application and reapply for a new voucher.

Audits and Tax Information

Some installations will be audited by a third-party organisation. Businesses can claim 100% of the costs of installing a chargepoint as a capital allowance. Some expenditure may qualify for a 130% enhanced deduction under the super deduction scheme.
